GRANDPARENTS RAISING AND NURTURING DEPENDENT CHILDREN

The Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities operates Joining Generations in recognition of the many benefits of bringing together younger and older persons. Over the years, Joining Generations has dealt with various intergenerational issues. Currently, Joining Generations is focusing its resources on providing support to grandparents and relative caregivers who are raising others’ children.

…and our senior citizens are in the mix!

An analysis of how different generations are getting their news suggests that these trends are likely to continue. In 2010, for the first time, the internet has surpassed television as the main source of national and international news for people younger than 30. Since 2007, the number of 18 to 29 year olds citing the internet as their main source has nearly doubled, from 34% to 65%. Over this period, the number of young people citing television as their main news source has dropped from 68% to 52%.

This fact places providers in a difficult position of attempting to meet consumers varied preferences while complying with regulations and an inequitable and arbitrary funding system that has failed to meet the actual cost of care for decades.
For example, the capital costs for nursing facilities under the Medicaid program are capped at one-tenth of the actual cost and have been for over 20 years despite numerous and costly increases in regulations during that period of time.

On becoming a ‘senior citizen’ . . .

I suspect that it will be a long, long, time until the world makes any sense to me. Given that I want to hang around for a long, long, time, I guess that is a convenient co-incidence.

Impact of the expanded senior citizens law

It is probably safe to assume that, if the promotional discount is granted based on the gross selling price, then this will be allowed as a deduction from gross sales — and shall not be limited to being deducted from the gross income — for income tax purposes.
