Working conditions of an ageing workforce
The possibility of staying in the labour market until or beyond the official retirement age depends largely on health status, well-being and work environment. For this reason, the workplace should be adapted to the needs of an ageing workforce (for example, introducing working time arrangements designed to meet the requirements of older workers).

The Plutonomy Symposium Rising Tides Lifting Yachts
Our whole plutonomy thesis is based on the idea that the rich will keep getting richer. This thesis is not without its risks. For example, a policy error leading to asset deflation, would likely damage plutonomy. Furthermore, the rising wealth gap between the rich and poor will probably at some point lead to a political backlash. Whilst the rich are getting a greater share of the wealth, and the poor a lesser share, political enfrachisement remains as was — one person, one vote (in the plutonomies). At some point it is likely that labor will fight back against the rising profit share of the rich and there will be a political backlash against the rising wealth of the rich. This could be felt through higher taxation on the rich (or indirectly though higher corporate taxes/regulation) or through trying to protect indigenous (home-grow)] laborers, in a push-back on globalization — either anti-mmigration, or protectionism. We don’t see this happening yet, though there are signs of rising political tensions. However we are keeping a close eye on developments.
Independent Foreclosure Review Underway
Under the enforcement actions taken in April by the OCC, the Federal Reserve, and Office of Thrift Supervision, 14 large mortgage servicers were required to correct deficiencies in their servicing and foreclosure processes and to engage independent firms to conduct a multi-faceted independent review of foreclosure actions that occurred in 2009 and 2010. Independent consultants are charged with evaluating whether borrowers suffered financial injury through errors, misrepresentations, or other deficiencies in foreclosure practices and determining appropriate remediation for those customers. Where a borrower suffered financial injury as a result of such practices, the consent orders require remediation to be provided.

Tai Chi for Health
Results of a study published in the March 8, 2004, issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine showed that tai chi seems to improve functioning in the heart, blood vessels and lungs among healthy people as well as those with heart conditions, including patients who have had coronary artery bypass surgery. Practicing tai chi also appears to reduce pain, stress and anxiety and may improve memory, concentration and digestion.
Retired? Head back to school with college discounts
It’s a trend that is likely to grow as seniors’ ranks swell with baby boomers, who by 2015 will represent some 35% of the U.S. population, looking to either acquire new job skills or simply enjoy new learning experiences. (Baby boomers are people born between 1946 and 1964)
Nearly six decades after graduating from college, Pete Shannon still can’t get enough of lectures and homework assignments.
Default Deadline Looms, Instead of helping 30,000 homeowners, EHLP will help about one-third that number, HUD data indicate.
Housing groups warned HUD as early as April, Finfer says, that the agency’s two-step application process would be too slow and wouldn’t be needed. They noted that Pennsylvania, for instance, had opened its EHLP program to applicants in April and hadn’t found homeowners blowing through the doors, Finfer adds.
HUD officials “were out of touch with the idea that homeowners would be skeptical,” Dodds says, even though consumer groups warned that homeowners might fear the program was a scam or just another government program that wouldn’t work for them.
